What is the difference between admission and registration?
Contrary to popular belief, admission to a secondary school does not confirm your child’s registration. In fact, the admission process generally includes an evaluation of each child’s file. Following this evaluation, parents of selected students will receive an admission confirmation and will be able to proceed with their child’s registration.
A child can be admitted to several secondary schools without being registered in any of them. A child’s spot at a school is only guaranteed once the registration process is complete. That’s why it’s important to understand the difference between admission and registration.
When does the admission process begin?
Many parents wonder when to start the process of enrolling their child in a private secondary school. Previously, the admission application was typically made in the fall, when the child started Grade 6.
Today, many private secondary schools open their admission period much earlier. At several schools (including CSJV), parents can begin the pre-admission process when their child starts Grade 5. Before starting the admission process, parents and future Secondary 1 students can attend the open house period, which takes place in the fall at most schools (CSJV will hold the 17th edition of its open house day on September 13).
Parents can also take this time to ensure they have (or order if necessary) their child’s birth certificate (long form and original). This will be required during the admission process.
As for CSJV, the admission period for the 2026-2027 school year runs from April 1, 2025 to September 15, 2025.
When do open houses take place?
Generally, the open house season takes place in the fall. It’s the opportunity to visit several secondary schools to enrol your child in the environment that suits them best. But how do you know which school to visit? First, we always recommend highlighting each child’s needs and desires to determine the most suitable secondary school. Then, simply find the schools that match those needs and desires.

What is the difference between public school sports-studies programs and private school sports concentrations?
Many private schools offer students more specific programs, often concentrations or academies, allowing them to practise an artistic, athletic, or scientific discipline, all integrated into their schedule.
Unlike Sports-Studies programs offered in public schools, in private institutions the student schedule is arranged so they don’t miss any classes while still being involved in their sport/art.
